Groundhog's Day is February 2nd.  Two of my favorite books to read around the Groundhog's Day holiday are "Wake up, Groundhog!" and "Go to Sleep, Groundhog!"  I've created extension activities for each book and also graphic organizers that compare the two!

Activities for "Wake up, Groundhog!"
Character Description for Phyllis

Text-to-Self comparison.  Phyllis wants to be Pynxsutawney Phil when she grows up.  What do you want to be when you grow up?

Students can make predictions throughout the story if you stop at the specified part in the story. Then, after you continue to read the story, compare answers with students.

Main Idea and Details for the story "Wake Up, Groundhog!"  They are provided with six details; only four of the six details are correct.  They need to glue the correct details onto the graphic organizer.

Character Description for Groundhog

"Go To Sleep, Groundhog!" predictions.  The students will predict if the Groundhog will see his shadow or not.  Then they will identify what it means if the Groundhog does not see his shadow.

This Candy Heart Sight Word Sort Canters game has the students count, sort and record the amount of letters in given sight words.  There are 48 words that are listed within the game.  The list of all 48 words are in the products description on my TPT store through the link below.
